PLACEHOLDER ARTICLE — Supporting a teenager who has started shutting down

PLACEHOLDER — a structural sample so the article pipeline can be proven end to end. Karen replaces this text before launch.

⚠️ PLACEHOLDER ARTICLE. Every word below is scaffolding written to prove

the publishing pipeline end to end — routing, prerendering, structured data,

the sitemap and the byline. It is not clinical guidance and must be

replaced by Karen before launch. Delete this block with the rest of the copy.

Why this page exists

This file lives at docs/articles/ and is the single source of truth for the page you are reading. It is rendered at build time and baked into the HTML that search engines receive, exactly like the Terms and Privacy pages.

Dropping another markdown file beside this one is all it takes to publish a new article. It will appear on the blog index, be prerendered, and be added to the sitemap automatically.

What a real article would do here

A genuine article would open with the moment a parent recognises: the bedroom door closing a little earlier each evening, shorter answers, a teenager who used to talk and now does not. It would name that experience plainly before offering anything else.

  • It would be written by a named, credentialed professional
  • It would say clearly what it is not — this is not therapy
  • It would point to real support services by name and number
  • It would avoid promising outcomes it cannot deliver

A note on tone

The writing that matters most to a worried parent is calm, specific and honest about uncertainty. Anything that oversells is worse than saying nothing.

Where to get real support

If you are worried about a young person right now, contact Childline on 1800 66 66 66, text HELLO to 50808, or call the Samaritans on 116 123. In an emergency, call 999 or 112.
